We have a certified U.S.
Sailing instructor on staff at all times. Safety is our primary concern.
All the kids Sunfish and Optimist classes are held above the Second
Ave. Bridge, behind the Boys and Girls Club. Everyone wears a life
jacket at all times. The Yngling classes are held in the bay just
a mile or two off shore. Every class is scheduled for five days. We
guarantee at least four days of instruction with one day available
as a rain day. We will try to use all five days if possible. Kids
are welcome (and encouraged) to sign up for multiple classes. They
can move from one level to the next all in one summer. |

Basic Sailing |
Sunfish Racing |
We have found that kids
love to sail and they know how to
have fun. This is our fifth year of offering basic sailing to kids
from 9 to 16. By adding Optimist dinghies to our fleet, we can now
offer classes starting at age 8. All classes are held behind the Boys
and Girls Club on the protected waters of the Thunder Bay River. Kids
will learn on either Sunfish or Optimist dinghies. No sailing experience
is necessary. |
Some kids just love to race, compete,
and go sailing. Sail boat racing is fun for kids and adults. We started
a Sunfish Racing class last year for those kids who want to really
sharpen their skills. Sunfish are raced all over the world because
it is a great boat to race. These classes are for those kids who are
ready for a new challenge on the Sunfish. We teach all the racing
rules of the road and just have a great time. |

17+ Yngling - Adult/Family Yngling |
Intermediate Sailing |
| Racing isn’t for everyone,
so if you just want to learn to sail we have classes for you. These
classes are for families or older kids who just want to learn about
sailing and spend some time out on the big lake. Our instructors will
teach you all the basics so you feel comfortable going sailing. Sailing
is a great sport for the whole family and being out on the lake on
a warm summer day is really fun. |
For kids who have mastered the basics
of sailing we offer the next level - Intermediate Sailing. All the
kids in this class can rig and sail a Sunfish on their own. Kids begin
to learn the finer points of sailing, do a little racing and just
have a good time sailing. Most of the kids have completed Basic Sailing
but if your child is 12 and up and has even a little experience, they
may be able to start out in this class. |
Yngling Crew Class |
Private Lessons |
For kids 14 and up who want
to race out on Lake Huron. This class teaches the basic skills needed
to be a crew member on a Yngling. Sailing experience is a big plus
but not a necessity. The class is for one week. Upon successful completion
of the class, the kids will have an opportunity to sail on a Yngling
in our regular Wednesday evening or Sunday afternoon races.

If our schedule doesn’t seem to
fit yours, just let us know. We can schedule private lessons with
up to three people in the boat. We’ll let you and the instructor
find a time that works best for you. |
